- Karl's
Calculus Tutor (http://www.karlscalculus.org/)
- Nice on-line tutorial on math but particularly useful is the
"Math Notation via Email" where he introduces standard notations that
have evolved in discussion forum/ email.
- LTSN
Maths, Stats & OR Network (http://ltsn.mathstore.ac.uk/)
- LTSN Maths, Stats & OR Network supports the learning and
teaching of Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research. It
contains educational resources, news and information. There is mailing
list information, contact addresses, and links to a wealth of
statistical resources worldwide. The site is also available in Welsh.
This is one of the network of LTSN sites in the UK
- Internet for Social Statistics
(http://www.sosig.ac.uk/vts/social-statistics/)
- Internet for Social Statistics is a free "teach yourself"
tutorial on the Web, teaching Internet information skills for social
statistics. The tutorial is aimed at students lecturers and researchers
who want to improve their knowledge of the best Internet resources for
this subject. It takes around an hour to do and includes quizzes and
interactive exercises. There are also "Resources for Trainers" to
support the use of the tutorial by librarians and lecturers who teach
Internet Literacy.
- STATLETS
(http://www.stat.duke.edu/sites/java.html)
- This collection of of Java applets comes from NWP Associates,
Inc. Datasets up to 100 rows, 10 columns can be analyzed for free;
anything larger requires a subscription.
- ExploreLearning
(http://www.explorelearning.com/GizmoList.cfm)
- Very cute applet exploring the Mean Median and Mode (but a bit
heavy if you are connecting through modem).

Data bases available at SOAS
- World
Bank Development Indicators
- The World Development Indicators (WDI) is the World Bank's
premier annual compilation of data about development from 1960 and
onwards.
- African Development Indicators
- Data from 53 African countries, arranged in separate tables or
matrices for more than 500 development indicators. The indicators are
grouped into 15 chapters: background data, national accounts, prices
and exchange rates, money and banking, the external sector, external
debt and related flows, government finance, agriculture, power,
communications and transportation, public enterprises, labor force and
employment, aid flows, social indicators, environmental indicators, and
household welfare indicators. Most of the indicators present data by
year for the period 1970–98.
- Global
Development Finance
- Includes a comprehensive set of tables with statistical data for
138 countries that report debt under the World Bank Debtor Reporting
System, as well as summary data for regions and income groups. It
contains data on total external debt stocks and flows, aggregates, and
key debt ratios, and provides a detailed, country-by-country picture of
debt, with more than 200 historical time series from 1970 to 2001, and
country group estimates for 2002.
- United
Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) database
- Two types of data sets are avaiblable. In UNIDO Industrial
Statistics Database at the 3-Digit (INDSTAT3) the data are arranged
according to the ISIC at the three-digit level, which provides for the
inclusion of 29 industries in the manufacturing sector. Information
refers to each of the following items and is presented by country, year
and ISIC category: number of establishments, employment, wages and
salaries, output, value added, gross fixed capital formation, number of
female employees and production indexes. All value data are originally
stored in national currency values at current prices. The system allows
for data conversion from national currency into current U.S. dollars
using the average period exchange rates as given in the IMF
International Financial Statistics (IFS). UNIDO Industrial Statistics
Databases at the 4-Digit (INDSTAT4) contains time series data on seven
selected data items for the period covering 1990 onwards, arranged at
the 3- and 4-digit level of ISIC (Revision 3) pertaining to the
manufacturing sector, which comprises 151 manufacturing categories.
- Datastream
- Datastream is a commercial database holding information on stock
prices around the world, company accounts and some macroeconomic
indicators.
Data bases on the web
- Penn World
Tables (http://pwt.econ.upenn.edu/)
- The Penn World Table provides purchasing power parity and
national income accounts converted to international prices for 168
countries for some or all of the years 1950-2000. The European Union or
the OECD provide more detailed purchasing power and real product
estimates for their countries and the World Bank makes current price
estimates for most PWT countries at the GDP level.
- Statlib

- Macroeconomic
time series
(http://www.fgn.unisg.ch/eumacro/macrodata/macroeconomic-time-series.html
)
- Compiles 19 macroeconomic time series for each of 19 countries.
- Economic Time Series Page
(http://www.economagic.com/)
